These shoes felt tight when I first tried them on but by nightfall they had softened up and have been very comfortable ever since. The bellows tongue is not mentioned in the advert but is a welcome feature. The soles seem to be solid (unlike some commando soles which are hollow inside the mouldings) and should last for a very long time. Recommended without hesitation.

I was nervous about ordering a new pair of shoes by post. I need a widefitting 10

I asked Fife Country’s ‘online chat’ for advice about the most appropriate size in Arisaig, received an immediate reply and trusted that advice.
Everything I own branded Hoggs of Fife has been good quality and I simply like their kit. So I pressed the button on the order

My feet fit my size 45 Arisaig shoes really well – very comfortably. The feet feel cushioned and not at all pinched

Arisaig is a Gibson type shoe and not too pointed. Arisaig also has a tough sole and good quality leather uppers, well stitched. The same quality materials have been applied to the lining materials. It was a pleasant surprise to find a storm welted leather tongue, because Fife did not advertise this.

I am in the process of testing how weatherproof my Arisaigs are. This will not take long because I wear them everywhere. No leaks yet. I’m going off to walk another 200 miles of the Camino Frances next Spring – and I’m going to walk it in my Arisaigs. Why not? – they will do the distance without giving me blisters.

If I have a criticism, the colour is in reality a tinge more tango than deep chestnut (my ideal). However, I have a plan: a mixture of Kiwi Dark Brown Parade Gloss and quality brown dubbin. There will be no trace of orange in a couple of weeks

If I could have a dark brown Oxford and a pair of brown brogues with exactly the same fit (please Fife) I would order them tomorrow

Comfortable very wide shoes but the toe shape makes them about an inch too long for the foot size and I keep scraping the toes on things and marking the leather.
